Tracy Underwood is a psychologist in private practice in Fort Worth. She has been a national speaker and provider of continuing education. She’s written three cognitive behavioral therapy workbooks on anger management and one CD. Before becoming a psychologist, Tracy taught English in Japan, had her blonde hair patted by strangers while riding public transport in South Korea, stayed with host families in Eastern Europe as it rained and rained and never stopped raining, squinted to see the Southern Cross in Australia, and watched frisky dolphins bow ride in New Zealand
She is currently writing a book called The Narcissism of Kings: Causes and Consequences of Narcissistic Leadership which combines her experience as a psychologist with her love of history. Through this alchemy she stands shoulder to shoulder with Nero on the Tower of Maecenas watching Rome burn. She listens to Henry VIII scorn the faithful Catherine of Aragon as he swoons over Anne Boleyn, and she sits quietly with Napoleon as he clutches a black velvet bag of belladonna around his neck contemplating suicide. The Narcissism of Kings follows each man’s narcissism from cradle to grave. It highlights what happened to them as children that turned them into narcissistic adults. It shows how their narcissism affected their families, colleagues, and the common folk caught in their force fields.
When not writing or pretending to do therapy with historical figures, Tracy collects auto-immune disorders and makes up stories for her two canine companions who never tire of hearing about Pavlov’s dogs and the ringing bells.
“The Narcissism of Kings looks closely at the lives of three colossal figures through the lens of psychology. Their childhood experiences share in common home environments that frustrate more than please and shame more than praise.” – Dr. Tracy Underwood
